Troubleshooting Central Air Condenser Problems

Troubleshooting Central Air Condenser Problems

There are a few common central air condenser problems that occur, and it’s important to be on the lookout for these. But, first: what is a central air condenser?

A central air conditioning condenser system consists of two separate units – there is one located outside your home, and one located inside. The condenser part of your system houses the compressor, condenser coil, and the blower fan. Your AC system’s condenser is, of course, an essential part of your AC system as a whole. If your condenser begins to fail, this does not mean good things for your AC system: in fact, this will likely seriously damage your AC.

Here are the main condenser problems to be on the lookout for:

  • Leaking or low refrigerant. If your condenser’s refrigerant is low or begins to leak, this could mean trouble. Why? Because the condenser connects to the indoor evaporator through a line that circulates your refrigerant – which essentially means that your whole system will likely break down in the case of leaking refrigerant.
  • Electrical issues. Since your condenser is powered by electricity, any problems with the electrical wiring inside your condenser could cause your system to cease working.
  • Sometimes, debris can get inside your condenser. This is because your condenser is located outside your home – so, there’s almost no telling what kind of leaves, dirt, and other debris can get inside. However, sometimes this debris can harm your condenser, and hamper your AC system.
